1. Media Unit questionnaire on research promotion

The Media Unit in the Media and Publication Services Office is preparing a University-wide Research Promotion Plan in order to enhance the public profile of the University of Melbourne as Australia’s leading research university.

In order to achieve this, staff involved in research are asked to consider completing a questionnaire about what communication, if any, they have had with the Media Unit in the past and whether they can suggest any way the Media Unit can help to enhance their research profile in the future.

The Media Unit also welcomes any suggestions for future initiatives.

The questionnaire can be accessed at: http://surveys.unidev.unimelb.edu.au/mpso_media_2005/
Friday, 28 January is the deadline for all contributions.

2. University support for tsunami communities

The University’s Human Resources Department is working with the major aid agencies to enable staff to make donations to tsunami relief appeals through salary deductions. All such funds will be donated to aid agencies working in tsunami–affected countries.

Arrangements are expected to be finalised this week and will be published in next week's StaffNews.

In the meantime, HR has posted the web addresses of key aid agencies on its website at http://www.hr.unimelb.edu.au/tsunami-relief to assist University staff and students who wish to make donations to support the relief and recovery effort.

Details of the University's support package for tsunami-affected communities are available on the University website at http://www.unimelb.edu.au/webcentre/about/tsunamiannouncement.html
