1. General Sir John Monash Awards, 2006

Applications are now open for the General Sir John Monash Awards.
These Awards are Australia’s prestigious equivalent to the Rhodes
scholarship and the American Fulbright program. The Awards offer
up to $150,000 over three years for postgraduate studies (PhD, DPhil
or professional Masters Degree) at leading overseas universities in 2006.

Only eight awards are made each year to Australian citizens judged
to have outstanding academic achievement, community consciousness
and service and leadership potential in their field and the community.
There is no restriction on the age of applicants or the fields of study
undertaken but recipients are expected to make a significant
contribution to the future development of Australia.

Applications close on 31 August. Application forms and further
information is available at www.monashawards.org

2. Advice on employment and close personal relationships

The Human Resources Department encourages all staff to ensure that
they are familiar with clause 10.14.3.6 of the Personnel Policy and
Procedures Manual, which provides policy and procedural guidance
on employment and close personal relationships, particularly the
employment of family members. The reference has recently been
strengthened following consideration of the policies of comparable
organisations and contemporary best practice.

As a guiding principle, it is undesirable that personal relationships
should intrude or be seen to intrude on or influence staffing decisions.
Procedures have been included to assist staff with decision-making

processes involving employment and close personal relationships.

8.30am to 4.30pm.

Staff are requested to bring consent forms for the vaccination with
