Uni gets Up Close in radio podcasts

[ Research Review 0307 ]

The University of Melbourne has launched ‘Melbourne University Up Close’, a fortnightly talk show delivered on podcast, showcasing the research personalities and cultural offerings of the University.

The first episode, which went online 6 October 2006, examined the topic of Contemporary Islam in Australia with Professor Abdullah Saeed, Sultan of Oman Professor of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University’s Asia Institute, and Director of the Centre for the Study of Contemporary Islam.

Dr Shane Huntington is the science host and Sian Prior is the humanities host.

“We may be the first Australian university to produce a radio talk show style series tailored to a podcast audience – it’s an exciting new knowledge transfer mode for Melbourne,” says Mr Kelvin Param (Marketing and Communications), co-creator and co-producer of the show with Mr Eric van Bemmell (Asia Institute).

Melbourne University Up Close is available through the iTunes podcast directory and other major podcast directories. The website will list transcripts, episodes and relevant links. The Up Close website is at: upclose.unimelb.edu.au
