The deadline for the following week’s regular Friday edition will be extended to midday on Thursday 27 March.

The regular deadline of cob Wednesday for publication Friday the same week will then re-apply.

2. Easter 2008 - payroll processing calendar

Human Resources reminds all staff that the Payroll paper and OTL cut off dates have been adjusted to incorporate the Easter break.

The Payroll calendar is at:

3. Easter pay availability

Staff are reminded that over the forthcoming Easter period salaries will be paid on Good Friday, 21 March (fortnight ending). The University must pay staff on Good Friday to accord with the legal requirements of the Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.

Unfortunately, some smaller banking institutions are not always able to make funds available during periods that include public holidays, in particular at Christmas and Easter. This means that while the University will make salary payments into nominated bank accounts on Thursday evening (20 March), some staff may not be able to access these funds until their bank processes the payment on the next business day (Tuesday 25 March).

While this only affects a small number of staff who bank with smaller financial institutions, staff may wish to clarify the arrangements used by their banking institution. Staff affected may wish to make alternative arrangements via Themis Self Service, to ensure availability of both personal and loan repayment funds.

The University regrets the necessity of these arrangements but it is an unfortunate consequence of the business practices of institutions external to the University and outside of its control or influence.

4. Workplace Discrimination and Harassment - Legal Compliance Online Training

At its December 2006 meeting the Planning and Budget Committee (PBC) approved the following recommendation from the Staff Equity and Diversity Committee: "That online training in discrimination and sexual harassment be a requirement for all staff stipulated in the employment contract, and that responsibility for ensuring staff meet the requirement rests with managers and supervisors."

From January 2008 within two months of their commencement new continuing and fixed-term staff are automatically enrolled in the online course Workplace Discrimination and Harassment - Legal Compliance, run by the Equal Opportunity Unit, and will receive a notification via email. All current staff are also encouraged to complete the course.

7. Changes at the School of Enterprise

The School of Enterprise has undergone important changes in operating model and name, as approved by Planning & Budget Committee in December 2007.

From 10 March 2008 it is known as Melbourne Consulting and Custom Programs (MCCP).

MCCP continues under Mariann Fee as a provider of consulting and professional education services for and in partnership with external clients. It provides a portal for clients seeking customised award and non award programs, and consulting services from the University.

MCCP remains part of the University’s commercialisation activities, under the Vice Principal (Commercialisation), Allan Tait. The other components of the commercialisation group are:
* Research commercialisation – Melbourne Ventures (led by Charlie Day)
* Courseware commercialisation – Curriculum Licensing Services (led by Julie Rodman)

MCCP, Melbourne Ventures and CLS operate through the University’s subsidiary, UMEE Ltd, providing client responsiveness and operational flexibility. MCCP is also a non-discipline specific School of the University for academic administration.

The operating model has also been changed. From 1 January 2008, all profits generated from projects managed by MCCP will be returned to the Faculty or Department that has provided the service (profit disbursement will be in accordance with instructions from Faculties). Projects will continue to be priced at commercial, market rates to reflect the value that the University’s services provide to clients.
