1. Internal communications and Information flow within the University

The Marketing and Communications Division is conducting some research amongst University staff members in order to better understand staff needs and expectations about internal communications and information flow within the University.

Interested members of staff are invited to participate in a one hour focus group session, on either Thursday 10 July at 12.30pm or Friday 11 July at 12.30pm. Light refreshments will be provided, and participants will receive a $50 University Bookshop voucher as a token of appreciation. There will be eight participants in each group, selected at random from received expressions of interest.

Staff who would like to have some input on internal communications and information flow within the University should email Anne-Maree Butt (ambutt@unimelb.edu.au) before 2pm Tuesday 8 July, indicating their Faculty and Position in the email.

2. Computer equipment recycling

Departments with equipment to dispose on the next computer equipment recycling day should contact their Facility Services Zone Leader by 9 July to arrange collection by a Building Supervisor - advising the type, quantity and location of equipment to be collected, and a convenient date and time for collection. Relevant LITEs should be contacted for any IT matters to be addressed prior to collection.

This arrangement applies only to the Parkville Campus and those off-campus locations serviced by a Building Supervisor.

Contact details for the Zone Leaders (who manage the Building Supervisors), which also details the buildings they are responsible for, can be found at: www.pb.unimelb.edu.au/propertyandbuildings/whereis.php3?subcat=7
Choose “by campus map”.

3. Car pooling

As the cost of petrol continues to rise, car pooling and/or expense sharing has become more attractive to staff across the University, with expressions of interest having been received from staff traveling from Cranbourne, Point Cook, Research and Werribee.

Stephen Fox from Financial Operations (8344 2984 / slfox@unimelb.edu.au) is helping to connect staff travelling from the same locations. Suggestions of more locations are most welcome.

4. MUWIRELESS decommission on the Parkville Campus

With the implementation of UniWireless nearing completion on the Parkville campus, the end of life, MUWIRELESS infrastructure is now scheduled for decommission. Commencing on 2 July MUWIRELESS will be switched off on a building by building basis across the Parkville campus with the final building switched off by the end of July.

After 31 July MUWIRELESS will only be available in buildings where MUWIRELESS existed before 28 April and where the building is still awaiting new infrastructure migration.

Rollout of UniWireless at regional campuses is dependant on the VERN project schedule, and as such MUWIRELESS will also continue to be broadcast at existing regional sites.

All students and staff using MUWIRELESS are advised to transition to UniWireless as soon as possible in order to avoid disruption to wireless services.

Documentation on how to configure laptops can be found at:
www.infodiv.unimelb.edu.au/knowledgebase/wireless/config.html

Enquiries: Marino Cattapan, Project Manager (marino.cattapan@unimelb.edu.au).
