The University of Melbourne’s 2006 SheppARTon Festival sponsorship has been hailed a success.
The University is in its second year as the naming rights sponsor for the event.
University of Melbourne’s Manager of Development for the Goulburn Valley, Sally Simson, said the sponsorship of the festival reflected the University’s role as a public-spirited organisation, encouraging activities that nurture wider community health and wellbeing.
Several SheppARTon Festival events were directly sponsored by the University, including the festival’s official launch by Professor Warren Bebbington, the University of Melbourne’s Assistant Vice-Chancellor (University Relations).
The event also included the outstanding dance performances by students from the Victorian College of the Arts.
The Bold Statement Sculpture ‘ART’ by Dean McPherson appeared on the front lawn of the University’s Goulburn Valley Office during the festival program, and the School of Rural Health hosted the immensely popular keynote presentation by Julian Burnside ‘What must a community sow to reap a harvest of harmony?’
A section of an exhibition by Melbourne-based artist Kate Durham was also featured at the School.
Ms Simson said the activities the University participated in as part of the festival were very popular and created positive conversation within the community.
“Overall the festival achieved its theme of harmony by reaffirming spirit within the Goulburn Valley community,” she said.
