Uni Visions goes online

[ The University of Melbourne Voice Vol. 1, No. 4  30 April - 14 May 2007 ]

The first edition of a new video podcast (vodcast) showcasing life at the University of Melbourne – across research, learning, teaching, and campus, community and cultural activities – is available on the web.

The vodcast, called Visions, aims to give students, staff and the broader community a fortnightly snapshot of activities at the University. It can be seen and downloaded at visions.unimelb.edu.au

The launch edition of Visions carries a story on ‘The gift of hearing’, which highlights the benefits of cochlear implants for speech development in deaf children. A second story, ‘Location Location’, looks at why the University is such a favorite location for film directors.

According to Visions’ reporter, Ms Rebecca Scott, the series provides a powerful channel for getting University stories out into the wider community.

“Visions reaches people on a global scale through the web – people we might not have reached in the past using traditional media,” she says.

Future editions of Visions will look at new research which shows that IVF mothers can find their early days with a new baby more challenging than expected, and also how yabbies tap into an underwater broadband network to find food or avoid predators.
