Alan Kohler to chair Melbourne University Publishing Board

Respected Australian financial journalist, Alan Kohler, will be the next Chair of the Board of Directors of Melbourne University Publishing Limited (MUP).
A director of Melbourne University Publishing since 2007, Mr Kohler been a financial journalist, editor, publisher and commentator for 38 years.
Editor of The Australian Financial Review between 1984 and 1988 and editor of The Age from 1992 to 1995, he has twice been Chanticleer columnist for The Australian Financial Review as well as a columnist for the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.
For seven years until 2002, Alan Kohler was also business editor of ABC TV’s 7.30 Report and for the past six years has been business and finance presenter on ABC’s nightly news as well as host of Inside Business.
In 2005, he founded the Eureka Report investment newsletter and is co-founder and Editor in Chief of Business Spectator, a free 24-hour-a-day business news and commentary website as well being CEO of the company that owns both publications, Australian Independent Business Media Pty Ltd.
He has been a director of Melbourne University Publishing since 2007.
Mr Kohler succeeds Mr Robert McKay who will step down as Chair of MUP in December 2008.
Mr McKay has served two terms as Chair since 2002. In 2001-2002, Mr McKay lead the review of Melbourne University Press that recommended the Press should be divided into Melbourne University Publishing and Melbourne University Bookshop. He was also Chair of the Board of the Ian Potter Museum of Art 1998- 2006.
University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor Professor Glyn Davis paid tribute to both Mr Kohler and Mr McKay.
