Faculty of Veterinary Science offers free care for pets and horses injured in bushfires

Media Release, Monday 9 February 2009

The University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Veterinary Science will provide free care at the University of Melbourne Veterinary Clinic and Hospital to pets and horses injured in the recent bushfires.

Professor Ken Hinchcliff, Dean of the Faculty, says Veterinary Science staff are deeply concerned for the health and well-being of people and animals in the bushfire regions.

”After ensuring the safety of themselves and their human loved ones, people affected by the bush fires will want to ensure that their pets are cared for and receive the veterinary attention they need,” he said.

“Veterinary services in the regions affected by bushfires will be stretched to the limit.”

Professor Hinchcliff says people with injured dogs and cats who wish to use the Faculty’s services should contact the Veterinary Clinic and Hospital on 97312232 (24 hours).

For injured horses, contact the Equine Centre at the University of Melbourne on 97312268.
