Boat Club Royal Henley-bound

The Melbourne University Boat Club is preparing to travel to the United Kingdom in July to compete in the prestigious Royal Henley Rowing Regatta, arguably the most famous rowing regatta in world sport.

The University will be competing in the Temple Challenge against some of the world’s most esteemed universities including Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard, Princeton and Yale.

Such is its popularity the 170-year-old Royal Henley Regatta is held over five days and hosts some of the best boat clubs from across the globe. Rowing in the Royal Henley Regatta will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Melbourne University’s representatives, especially given that 2009 is also the 150th anniversary of the inception of the MUBC. Established in 1859, it is the oldest rowing club in Australia.
