1. Academic Board election of professional staff 2009 - notice of ballot

The following nominations had been received for the election of two members of the professional staff to sit on the Academic Board: Elena Goodey, Jang Pannu and Heather Thomas. The ballot will be conducted electronically. Voting will open at 9:00am on Monday 16 November and will close at 5:00pm on Friday 20 November. To vote, go to vote.unimelb.edu.au/ Log-in will be by email username. Voting papers have been posted to casual staff on the electoral roll who do not have an email username. Voting papers have also been posted to staff on leave at the time of the electronic ballot.

8. New University Travel Portal demonstration

The University is introducing an online Travel Portal which will be used by all staff for the approval and arrangement of travel, replacing the existing paper-based process. It will come into effect in mid-December 2009. A demonstration will be held 1:00pm - 2.00pm on Wednesday 18 November at the Sidney Myer Asia Centre, Carrillo Gantner Theatre.

13. Optus telecommunication towers to improve coverage

Optus is expanding its mobile telecommunications network to provide improved service coverage at the Parkville and Southbank campuses.
Antennae have been installed at the Student Union and VCAM, Block B Engineering and the David Penington Building. People aged 60-80 years are required for a research study assessing visual function. Participants must have normal vision (either with or without glasses) and have no health problems known to affect vision. Six test sessions of 1 hour are involved (the first and final sessions may require an additional half hour). Testing will include an abbreviated clinical eye examination, visual field and computer-based testing of vision. Volunteers will be reimbursed $15 per session to assist with expenses incurred. 22. Vision research: people who don't have headache

People aged 18 - 45 years who do not experience headaches are required to form a control group for a research project investigating visual function following migraine headaches. To be eligible to participants need to get very infrequent headaches and to never have had a migraine.

23. Request for control subjects

The Department of Psychiatry is looking for control subjects for a study examining how cannabis use affects the brain. This two-part study involves a memory testing session and a brain scanning session. Each session takes approximately two hours and participants receive $50 in Coles-Myer vouchers for each session. Participants should be over 45 years old, not be using drugs or alcohol regularly, not have a university degree, and should not have a diagnosed mental illness. MHREC number 2007.14. 24. Volunteers required for pelvic floor research

Women who experience mild to moderate symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse (bladder, uterus or bowel) - the feeling of something 'falling down', pelvic dragging and/or heaviness - are invited to participate in a randomised controlled trial being undertaken at the Physiotherapy School. Exclusion criteria are previous prolapse surgery, or pessary treatment in the previous 12 months. Participation will involve gynaecology and physiotherapy assessments, randomisation into a lifestyle advice group or a physiotherapy-supervised pelvic floor muscle training group for 6 months, and completion of questionnaires over a 12- month period.
