1. Graduate Certificate in University Management - call for applications

The Graduate Certificate in University Management (GCUM) prepares University staff for senior administrative and management roles. The course is designed to develop transferable leadership and management skills, and develop knowledge in the complexities of higher education policy and frameworks. 2. Towards 2011 Project website

The next phase of the Melbourne Model will take effect in 2011 as the first graduates from the New Generation degrees flow through to graduate programs. The Towards 2011 Project will recommend to the Academic Board arrangements for the University's graduate programs in preparation for 2011. The Project Steering Committee, a smaller planning group, and six specialised working groups are working to address the Project's terms of reference. The Project website has been established to provide staff with information at www.provost.unimelb.edu.au/towards_2011 .

3. Change management workshops

An integrated suite of programs is offered to support supervisors and staff to navigate their way through the change process. These focus on enhancing self-awareness, skill building, providing different perspectives and developing techniques and strategies to take control of their change journey. 7. Digital Print Centre online ordering

The Digital Print Centre has launched a new step-by-step online ordering system. Staff will be able to obtain an instant quote, submit jobs online, upload print files and check the status of jobs. 8. Design and Analysis of Experiments course

The Statistical Consulting Centre is offering a course on the Design and Analysis of Experiments, from Thursday 19 to Tuesday 24 November (4 days). 10. Interdisciplinary projects seed funding

Imaginative, interdisciplinary research project proposals are sought to receive one year’s seed funding. Successful proposals will address problems facing society that require an interdisciplinary approach and that are consistent with the broad research objectives of one or more of the Melbourne Research Institutes, or designated emerging areas of focus. 11. IBES project seed funding

The Institute for a Broadband Enabled Society (IBES) is calling for innovative proposals from across the University research community that take an interdisciplinary approach to researching new products, services, and innovations that maximize the benefit of broadband technologies to society. The purpose of this funding is to provide short-term support for exciting and high return projects that will lead to new collaborations and help establish new research teams. The Policy for the Management of Research Data and Records (2005) has been reviewed and updated to provide clearer information to researchers, student researchers and Heads of Department about their responsibilities for the short and long term management of research data and records. 18. New ‘Visions’ available

Episode 62 of Visions braves the Melbourne morning chill to witness more than 100 rowers on the Yarra river helping celebrate 150 years of University rowing, and sees more than 300 robot dancers attempt a world record in the name of engineering on the South Lawn. 20. Themis Financials Intermediate (Internal Transactions) Pilot

Thursday 22 October 10:00am – 1:00pm. Trainer: Karen Ritter. Limited places still available. 23. Volunteer Alcohol and Cannabis users required

The Orygen Youth Health Research and Headspace Western Melbourne are seeking young people aged 15 to 25 to participate in a treatment study. People who feel depressed and anxious sometimes and use cannabis and/or alcohol are offered free treatment consisting of 1-3 sessions of specialist counselling for depression and alcohol/cannabis use. One month later volunteers will then be offered up to 12 sessions of free extra treatment. All responses are confidential and volunteers will be reimbursed for their time. 24. Volunteers required for running study

This study looks at gait biomechanics and single leg squat ability in healthy young adults. Volunteers need to be running regularly at least 20km per week or participating in a running related sport, be 18-40 years and uninjured. The study will provide runners with information about their lower limb strength and flexibility and performance ability on several sports specific functional tests. 25. Volunteers required for back pain study

Adults with chronic back pain are needed for a research trial at the Centre for Health Exercise and Sports Medicine at Melbourne Physiotherapy School to compare two types of exercise programs. Eligible volunteers aged 18-70 will receive free exercise treatment but must be available to attend the trial clinic in South Yarra twice a week for six weeks.
